Name : Itmam Hossain
Matric No.: KIE170707

As a international student I have been always curious about Malaysian culture and tradition and people here. In my second year by taking Social Engagement project I got the chance to engage and interect with the local community. I have never experience kampung life. I’ll be brief about my amazing experience of working with bunch of people.

DAY 1

Kampung Rinching Hill which is approximately 40km from UM. So, we had to leave as early as 9pm from the University. It took about an hour to reach there. All of the group gathered in the assembly hall to meet village leader there we were briefed by the village leader and then we introduced ourself. Then we were served lunch which was really delicious.
At around 2:30 pm we went to sugarcane farm by lorry which was really exicting. The sugarcane farm was owned by Pak Ayub. He explained about Farming of sugarcane. He also made us taste Sugarcane which was really sweet. Then we depart from fram field to bee farm owned by Mr Fais. He explained us about bee farming and bee product we also got the chance to taste raw honey right from the bee hive.
After visiting those places we went back to our home stay got fresh and then we went to one of host house and prepared for BBQ night meanwhile we played some mini games and interacted with each other. At 9 pm we had our dinner with local people which was really exciting.

DAY 2

At 7 am we gather at an empty compound were we had our breakfast which was the national food of Malaysia nasi lemak which was really delicious then we performed Zumba and water rafting which was really stirring and boost us for the next session.
at about 2pm we had our lunch and went to meet the old folks in the village we visited their house they recieved us very humbly. We heard their sad stories. Tears were shed between us by knowing their conditions. At last we hand over them some merchandise. After that we came back to the assembly hall.
The closing ceremony was around 4pm. Some villagers gathered in the hall the village leader gave us some speech. Then the event came to end.
The experience was an amazing one, with a realization of self-satisfaction and though a tiring task brought an incredible joy after watching the smile on the faces of the individuals after receiving the goods. Though a very small part played for the community, it brought us a sense of responsibility, and can surely say this experience won’t be my last, will look forward some more experience the community whenever I get the second chance. My groupmates were amazing themselves as well, the task became enjoyable enough because of them.
