"Program Anak Angkat" was a great experience for me since I had been studied in University of Malaya (UM) that located in the middle of Kuala Lumpur city about 2 years ago. It was a good chance for me to be far away from the congested area that is in some sort of beautiful villages. Kampung Rinching Hilir is one of the village that develop some business as their main routines and plantations are one of their core source of income. This visit teach us the meaning of teamwork and how to interact with other range of people.
We have stayed in Kampung Rinching Hilir for 2 days 1 night on 30th and 31st of March 2019. Dr Marizan, lecturer's incharge for our group had advised us with so many things, I'm very thankful for that. Before the visit, all of our groupmates had done a proposal of the activities and budgets as we need to present it in front of Dr Marizan. We glad that our proposal was approved with some improvement of activities suggested by Dr. Regarding to our trip as 4 groups were going there simultaneously, we divided our tasks by day. So, our group were assigned to prepare some basic needs for old folks' visit and handle the closing ceremony.
First Day (30th March 2019)
In the morning, we was given a short briefing from our respective group leaders about the flow of the visit before depart from UM. Group 1 had divided all of us into some small groups that can fit our transportation. I felt very excited that morning as my expectations to do such great activities later. After about one hour, we arrived at Kampung Rinching Hilir, Semenyih and were asked to gather at the 'Balai Raya' before the opening ceremony start.
After we was briefed by chief officer, it is our turn to introduce ourselves. Then, we were served delicious lunch with nasi putih, sambal chicken and vegetable soup. Without wasting any time, after finished zuhr prayer we went to sugar cane field owned by Pak Ayob. Everyone was well prepared to go there as we went by our own cars and one lorry. Went there by lorry was a cheerful moments for whoever never experience transported by lorry before this. We all laugh happily although we had to struggle hard in that lorry for a quite long period before we reach the field.
Once we arrived, Pak Ayob gave us clear explanation about the process of planting and growing the sugar cane, also some tips for treating and keeping the farm in a good condition. They made their own water flow system to make sure sugar cane can grew up faster as the soil was very dried. Moreover, we were also given some raw sugar cane to try out. Not everyone ever experience this before, thus I caught feeling of happiness with a perfect taste of sweetness in their faces .
Next, we were led to Bahoney Bee Farm owned by Mr Fadirul Fais, who is a local villager. He shared his background before he started this business, it was an amazing story. Its started after he freshly graduated from overseas and decided to develop his own bee farm. Since 2012, Bahoney Bee Farm was opened and the bees that grew up here was stingless (kelulut) bees rather than the normal bee. We also got chance to try out the raw honey directly from selected stingless nest while Mr Fais briefly explained to us how the process of the honey made.
Besides, Mr Fais also told us that various products were made by Bahoney Bee Farm team such as natural honey, lipbalm and many more. Bahoney also has a Shopee page where they sell their products there. Unexpectedly, he offered us some discounts of RM25 per honey jar instead of RM40 per jar, it was crazily cheap! I grab this opportunity to buy a small jar of honey as a souvenir for my father. We also got the chance to taste the honey. I must say it taste a little sour from the normal honey. Nevertheless, it was just as good with combination of sweet and sour!
After everyone exhausted, we back to our homestay to rest and prepare ourselves for next activity. Then, in the evening some of us were prepared for BBQ night while some were playing mini games at Cikgu Mazlan's house. Everyone worked out in a team also with the locals.
Second Day (31st March 2019)
For the second day, early in the morning at 8.00 am we started our last day with some exercise and zumba that conducted by group 10. We assembled at a court that beside the river, Sungai Rinching. We were served nasi lemak as breakfast before we were doing water rafting. Water rafting is optional to everyone. Anyone whose did not join had to gotong royong near the compound. Water rafting was one of the unique activity in this village because they made those rafts by themselves. They used the bamboo, large water tank, PVC pipes and etc. This activity took about 2 hours to finish.
As I didn't follow the rafting team, i and some other people had talked with some villagers. They told us that whenever people came to their village, it is a must to try water rafting. Some of them also had joined rafting competition before this.
In the afternoon, we were served with 'Nasi Ayam' at 'Balai Raya'. Luckily, we had permission to add extra because some girls were already had lunch with their foster family. Without wasting time, we continued to our next activity which was visiting old folks' home. Our group incharged and we prepared every kind of basic stuffs such as rice, shower and also biscuits more earlier.
We were divided into 3 groups and each group covered 3 houses. My heart was in tear when I knew and saw in front of my eyes that some of the old folks only afford to lie down in bed, some had cronic disease and etc. It was an honor for them when we as outsider gave those basic needs and have some moments with them. To be honest, we can't afford to give more, but at least we tried our best to lighten their burden.
Before we returned back to UM, we as Group 15 took some pictures for our memories and also final presentation later.
