'Anak Angkat' Programme at Semenyih
My New Experience at Kampung Rinching Hilir, Semenyih
30-31 March 2019
First of all, I never thought that I will attend this kind of programme under Mesa for my Social Engagement group project. Because before this, I never joined any 'Anak Angkat' programme since I'm in UM for 2 years. So, this would be my first time on having this kind of activities, which was very excited and many more enjoyable moments. Many fun activities have we done with the villagers at Kampung Rinching Hilir. We never expect this will be one of our precious moment and experience in our life when we at degree.
First Day (30 March 2019)
On the first day, at 9.00, before we departed from UM, we gathered at our Electrical Engineering department for a short briefing, so that our movement would be smooth. All the groups were gathered for the short briefing, and was conducted by each of the group leaders about the flow of the activities there. After that, Group 1 divided us into small group so that each of the group could fit in one car. At this time, I was very excited to see how it looks and scenery there. About one hour the journey took, and we arrived at Kampung Rinching Hilir. After we arrived, we were asked to gather at the community hall for a short talk from the village heads. At that time, we were introduced ourselves to them and knew more things about them. Then, we were served by the delicious food there and back to our homestay for Zuhur prayer and rest.
After Zuhur prayer, we went to sugar cane farm owned by Pak Ayob. We went there by our cars and a lorry. It was the great and cheerful moment for me to ride a lorry since I never experienced transported by lorry before this. We all in the lorry were all laugh happily and enjoyed, also we had to struggle quite hard before we reached the farm.
After we arrived, Pak Ayob gave us brief explanation about the process of planting and picking the sugar cane, also some tips to keep the large farm in a good condition. Furthermore, we were also given some raw sugar cane to try. Not all could experience to try a raw sugar cane which were picked directly from the its plant!
Next, we continue our journey to the Bahoney Bee Farm owned by Mr Fadirul Fais, who is a local villager. He shared his background before his started his business and how he did it. Since 2012 the farm was opened and the bees that grew up there was 'Kelulut' type rather than normal sting bee. We also got a chance to try raw honey directly from the 'Kelulut" nest while Mr Fais briefly explained how the honey being made. The honey was pure sweet and much naturally tasty.
We were so exhausted after that. We went back to our homestay for Asar prayer and prepared ourselves for the next activities. Then, we went to Cikgu Mazlan's house for the BBQ preparation while some of us playing mini games conducted by a group. From the mini games, I got to know some of the students from other group as well as more interaction between electrical engineering students.
Dinner starts at 9.00 pm as it took much time to grill all the chickens. We took the meal with the villagers while we chatting with them. As expected, all the chickens was so delicious even though they was done with us. Haha. Never thought to be that good.
Second Day (31 March 2019)
On the second day, we started our activities at 8.00 am with some aerobics so that we could warm up our bodies for the next activity. Then, we have our breakfast which is Nasi Lemak and 'Teh Tarik' served by the villagers there. After breakfast, we divided into our groups, one group will go to water rafting, while the other group went for 'gotong royong' area the Semenyih River. Everyone was so excited with the water rafting since many of us never experience to be in water rafting at the river. To be honest, water rafting activity was the best activity we done there. All of us was so happy and enjoy to be on the raft, even on the half way we went, one of the raft broke into half. Haha. Everyone was so struggle back then to fix the raft. After all, the activity was the most exciting we ever had.
Then, we went back to our homestay and have our rest. After that, we have our lunch before our next activity. Our next activity is visiting oldforks' house. We prepared to give some of needs for them while we visiting them. Before we started our visit, my group leader divided all of us into 3 groups. Each of the group visited 3 houses around the village. The villagers are so happy to see us. We chatted with them and get to know much about them at that time. It was the new experience for me since it was the first time I joined this activity. I also learned a lot from the activity, no matter how hard we live through, life must go on and be strong no matter what our condition are.
After that, we finished all the activities at the Kampung Rinching Hilir and we continue with the closing ceremony. We gifted all the villagers involved some souvenirs from UM so that they will remember us and also acknowledged them for welcoming us to the village.
I will never forget this kind of experience from my life and all of them were all the sweet memories of mine that I will keep forever. Thank You.
