Name: Qistina 'Aesyah Binti Abdul Hafidz

A joy to behold, a memory to remember.

Living in a university located in the center of a fast - paced city, it is always a good therapy to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. I find it important for each individual to get a peace of mind be it a charity work, spend time with some friends or even doing some outdoor activities that you have never tried before! I see it as a blessing in disguise registering the Social Engagement course. At first, i thought this would be just another cliche charity work but it totally blew my mind off when i went on a 2 days 1 night stay in Kampung Rinching Hilir, Semenyih for our Social Engagement course. Of course there were some preparations that need to be done before we head off for the exciting adventure. We discussed among our group members about the lists of activities to be done and also the budget that we need in order to cover the costs for our whole stay. On the other hand, there were also other 3 groups who will be participating us in Kampung Rinching Hilir and our group was in charged for the old folk's visit and the closing ceremony.

The date has been set which is on the 30th and 31st of March, the preparation is now complete and we are ready to go. We agreed to meet at our department at 8am and once everyone is already present, we took off to Semenyih with our own cars. We reached at the village around 10.30 am and all i felt so grateful because all i see was greenery which is a luxury in this modern era of living. Upon our arrival, we spotted a food stall that looks very appetizing. We stopped by the food stall while waiting for others to arrive and safe to say we could not resist the thirst for an authentic roti canai. To our surprise, the chief villager had decided to treat us the roti canai as he was also having his breakfast there. I felt extra blessed by his kind gestures. After finishing our roti canai, we headed to the meeting room for the opening ceremony. During the opening ceremony, we had a short ice - breaking session and then we were given a short briefing by the chief villager about the flow of our event.

We then proceeded with lunch which was really delicious! After lunch, we went to our foster family's home which was located on top of a hill for a short break. We greeted them and they welcomed us with a really friendly smile and that me felt really welcomed and blessed to be there. After we had settled down few stuffs, we head back to the meeting room at 2pm. The next activity is really fun as it was something that i had never done before which is visiting farmland. We went there with few cars and a lorry. Most of the boys took the lorry and they looked really happy being at the back of the lorry. At first, we visited the sugarcane farm. The journey to the sugarcane farm was really interesting. At the farm, we were explained by Pak Ayob, the owner of the farm, a little about the background about sugarcane and how he came to be an owner of sugarcane farm. Other than that, we were also given the chance to try raw sugar cane by chewing them. The taste was perfect when the juice ooze out from the stick!

Our journey continued to our second location of the day which is bee farm. This was also my first time visiting a bee farm and it was definitely interesting! We were given the chance to see how the honey is cultivated and extracted. Some of us also tried extracting the honey using the tube like how the owner showed us to. Many of us were really excited to try extracting the honey as this is a very new and exciting experience for engineering students like us. Our farmland visit had been completed after we departed from the bee farm.

In the evening, we gathered at Cikgu Mazlan's house for barbecue night. According to the villagers, Cikgu Mazlan's usually hosts for huge gathering in the village. Some of us were involved with preparing the food while some of us joined some games in the backyard. We played dodge ball and few other games. It was a great opportunity to know our course mates better through these games. We started eating at around 9 pm and during that time, we had great conversations with the villagers. Personally, i find it really meaningful to be able to have conversations with the elderly.

On the second day, we started our day early with some light exercises at a compound around the village followed by a hearty breakfast before we head out for water rafting. I joined the second trip for the rafting and it was totally challenging as the route was a little bit more difficult than the first trip. The rafts were made from plastic water tank, PVC and ropes.

After the water rafting activity, we had lunch after a really tiring but fun activity. After that, we went to few houses to give out household needs to them. Some of the items were rice, biscuits, detergents etc. Giving out the necessities to the villagers was a really fulfilling experience for us as this reminds us that we should always give back to other people no matter small or big. Although we did not give much to the villagers, they were really happy upon receiving our small gift to them and they welcomed us really well into their homes. I had a really great time having some conversations with the villagers that we visited.

Finally, it was to time to bid farewell to Kampung Rinching Hilir. Our 2 days 1 night experience here has been nothing short but amazing with the villagers who treated us like we are their family. Before departing back to UM, we took some pictures and also exchanged numbers with our host family. I am really grateful to be able to experience this wholesome stay in Kampung Rinching Hilir. I wish the villagers prosperous health and brilliant wealth for their kindness toward us. Hopefully, we will get to meet them again one day!
